Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Legal Team for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Legal Support Officer. This new, part-time, fixed-term role is to provide administrative support to the Lead Legal Specialist and to provide legal assistance to Council Officers and Members. The purpose of the role is to ensure that Council staff and Members receive legal advice in relation to their work and ensure that accurate records are kept up to date.
About this role
You will play an essential role in the legal department by providing excellent organisational skills. To succeed in the role, you will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to ensure you can work with a variety of stakeholders within the Council and externally. You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills as you will need to balance the demands of a very busy workload.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Assist with internal and external enquiries, either written, email, face-to-face or telephone using empathy and judgement and taking appropriate action whilst dealing with potentially complex and sensitive data.
2. Provide administrative support to the Legal team ensuring that records are kept up to date and legal deadlines are complied with.
3. Provide guidance to staff on legal issues and procedures in relation to their role and support the Lead Legal Specialist in their role as Monitoring Officer.
4. Work within the procedural guidelines and ensure deadlines are met, taking appropriate action to complete work to given timescales (sometimes at short notice).
5. Draft documents and provide some legal advice to staff.
6. Maintain confidentiality at all times and make file notes for legal purposes while managing and resolving enquiries that are made to the Legal team.
7. Work both in the office and remotely to meet the needs of the team.
