HGV Mechanic

Red Sky is seeking a talented and experienced HGV Mechanic to join our client at Birmingham Airport. You'll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our ground support equipment (GSE) fleet, keeping airside operations running efficiently and safely.
As a HGV Mechanic, What You'll Do:
1. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of GSE vehicles and equipment.
2. Perform routine maintenance tasks to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
3. Maintain accurate and detailed service records for all GSE equipment.
4. Collaborate with internal customers to understand their needs and provide exceptional service.
5. Contribute to a safe work environment by adhering to all health and safety regulations.
6. Participate in scheduled preventative maintenance (PPM) for GSE vehicles and equipment.
7. Repair vehicles and plants as requested by the Workshop Supervisor.
8. Carry out inspections, brake and smoke tests and show all defects to the Workshop Supervisor before commencing with any repairs or booking out any parts.
9. Diagnose and inform the Workshop Supervisor of all work and parts required before commencing job.
10. Complete job card/inspection sheet correctly to current point of repair and hand to the Workshop Supervisor at the end of each day's shift.
11. Update the Workshop Supervisor of any further work or parts required immediately.
12. Present job cards at stores to enable parts to be supplied.
13. Inform the Workshop Supervisor of any VOR parts immediately.
14. All booked parts used from workshop must be on the front of job cards and all parts taken out of hours must be written on parts sheet as confirmation.
15. Label parts and put them onto correct shelves, e.g. warranty or exchange unit.
16. Inform the Workshop Supervisor immediately upon job completion.
17. Quarantine, label and report all defective tooling immediately to the site Workshop Supervisor.
18. Report any defective items immediately to the Workshop Supervisor.
19. Accurately complete and hand in manual daily time sheet after each day of shift.
As a HGV Mechanic, we're looking for someone with:
1. Class 1 / Class 2 HGV license.
2. A minimum of 5 years' experience in vehicle maintenance, preferably with GSE or HGV experience.
3. Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills to identify and resolve equipment issues efficiently.
4. A meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and customers.
6. The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
7. A valid driver's license.
8. A clean criminal record check is mandatory for airside access.
9. General knowledge of health and safety regulations.
10. Operational vehicle/logistical background experience.
11. Experience of working in a customer-focused environment.
12. Experience in the vehicle maintenance sector.
13. Able to work on an on-call roster.

HGV Mechanic Qualifications:
1. City and Guilds or equivalent qualification in Motor Mechanics Level 3 - essential.
2. HGV/Plant - Desirable.
