Description
The School of Access to Higher Education within The City of Liverpool College delivers a wide range of Access to H.E. courses across a range of curriculum areas. We are seeking someone who can teach psychology and the sociology of health to Level 3 Access to Higher Education students. You will join an established team who have many years' experience providing a successful Access to Higher Education provision to our students. We have built strong links with local, regional and national Higher Education Institutions, and our students benefit from this. We are seeking a lecturer who can build on these links, and further strengthen our team by providing effective and stimulating opportunities for all students, through high quality teaching, learning and assessment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
2. Engage in the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and actively participate in the annual review.
3. Stay updated on national developments in the subject area and enhance knowledge and skills annually.
4. Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality lessons to effectively manage the learning process.
5. Utilize a range of effective teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students, encouraging independence and student autonomy.
6. Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued.
7. Maintain procedures with students that promote appropriate behaviour, communication, and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
8. Set and mark work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies.
9. Track students' progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies.
10. Provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.
11. Understand external/internal assessment procedures and play an appropriate role in their implementation.
12. Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximize effective communication and overcome barriers.
13. Liaise with the Head of School to contribute to the design of programs and teaching approaches that will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added.
14. Contribute to the administration necessary to support teaching, learning, and assessment within the subject area.
15. Review own professional development needs and participate fully in future training and development.
16. Communicate and consult with parents, carers, and students, including during Parent's Evenings, Welcome Evenings, events, and open evenings.
17. Ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College's policies and procedures.
18. Provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating, and enhance the student experience.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Essential:
1. Educated to Level 4 e.g. Degree or equivalent in a Psychology/sociology/related field.
2. A recognised Teaching qualification or vocational experience.
3. Professional qualification relevant to the subject area.
4. Excellent computer literacy - ability to use the current IT programs of the College.
5. Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery.
6. Knowledge and understanding of Access to HE provision.
7. Engaged in Continuing Professional Development.
8. Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete.
9. High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
10. Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues, and for themselves.
Desirable:
1. Experience of resource-based learning.
2. An ICT qualification.
3. Membership of a relevant professional body.
4. Experience of assessing students' needs and planning curriculum for their benefit including Technology Enhanced Learning.
5. Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers.
6. Good understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes.
7. The ability to teach sociology and/or criminology at level 2 and/or level 3.
