Purpose
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the UKRI Strategic Financial Planning team in the unique role of Strategic Financial Planning Lead. This is a high profile and critical post in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with regular engagement and interaction with senior management including the UKRI Finance Director, CFO, CEO, and Executive Committee (ExCo) among others. This post would suit an ambitious and driven individual with a strong commitment to ensuring strategic advice takes into consideration financial imperatives.
Reporting to the UKRI Deputy Director for Strategic Financial Planning, the successful candidate will be fundamental to ensuring UKRI finance is integrated into the policy development process right from the beginning. The successful candidate will lead on maintaining the current model for working with Strategy, Analysis, and various other teams tasked with policy development in the centre, operating units across UKRI and DSIT.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the finance lead for fiscal event planning ensuring high quality and timely advice is provided to senior decision makers that factors in UKRI’s strategic objectives and financial position within this and future SR periods.
* Work with Strategy and Analysis Directorate among others on Autumn Statement, Spending Review, and any ad hoc events. Liaise with FBPs and cross-cutting leads to inform on advice in an inclusive manner, planning effectively to reduce the need for last-minute requests.
* Act as the finance project lead for emerging policy and financial issues, building responsive and effective relationships across the organisation and functions.
* Improve financial decision making and control within the function acting as the financial representative coordinating on business cases at IAWG.
* Show effective leadership skills in motivating and developing team members in a matrix or dotted line environment.
* Promote a one team approach where continuous improvement is encouraged.
* Inputting where required as a subject matter on strategic finance issues.
Shortlisting Criteria
Essential:
* Qualified Accountant or working towards qualification (ACA/CIMA/ACCA/CIPFA or international equivalent).
* A strong understanding of accounting and finance and demonstrable experience of working in senior finance roles.
* Strong leadership, with the ability to engage and empower colleagues through change.
* Highly numerate with the ability to provide insightful analysis.
* Ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders and influence them.
* Experience of balancing the conflicting demands of stakeholders.
* A willingness to be “hands on” when the role requires it.
Desirable:
* Experience of working within a similar role and environment.
* A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and particularly a strong knowledge of Excel.
* Experience in delivering or managing change.
* Line management experience.
* Experience of accounting/finance in the public sector.
