Job Description
Renishaw Inc is seeking a Service and Support Engineer to join its Raman product line. The Service & Support Engineer installs, maintains, and provides technical support and training for Raman microscopy systems. Based at Renishaw’s US headquarters in West Dundee, IL, the position presents extensive travel opportunities supporting customers throughout North America. Working both independently and as a member of an expert team, you will interact directly with scientists across a range of disciplines to ensure complete satisfaction with their Raman instrumentation.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
1. Install, repair, and maintain training for Raman microscopes and accessories in the USA, Canada and Mexico
2. Diagnose faults with instruments both remotely and on customer site
3. Provide customer training on the use and maintenance of Raman instrumentation
4. Provide technical support to customers using phone, video conferencing and e-mail
5. Maintain regular and professional communication with customers throughout service events, including schedule, status and cost
6. Act as communication link between customer and company to ensure effective service delivery
7. Assemble parts for orders and prepare instruments for shipment
8. Schedule and organize travel to customer sites
9. Complete service reports, expense reports and other administrative tasks in an accurate and timely manner
10. Other Duties as Assigned or Requested
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
11. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or Engineer Technology equivalent, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical, Mechanical, or Optical Engineering, or professional equivalent (3-5 years of experience)
12. This position may require the use of, and access to, ITAR controlled data. The applicant must demonstrate eligibility to use and access such ITAR controlled data. The purpose of this requirement is to ensure compliance with U.S. export control laws.
Education and Experience:
13. Experience with microscopes, spectrometers, lasers, or optics
14. Understanding of materials science, physics, chemistry, and biochemistry
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Competencies
15. Understanding of electronic, optical and mechanical principles
16. Understanding of electrical, optical and mechanical components including CCD detectors, motors, reference switches, lasers, and optical microscopes
17. An organized and logical approach to troubleshooting complex opto-mechanical systems
18. Competence with Window-based computer systems
19. Manual dexterity with the physical ability to install and align optical systems in a laboratory environment
20. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
21. Good time-management and commitment to completing assigned work
