We are looking for enthusiastic doctors to lead the gastroenterology service at North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH). NMGH is the newest part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Its gastroenterology services have recently been disaggregated from the Northern Care Alliance service that previously provided gastroenterology care to the hospital.
The post-holders in NMGH will join an established team of gastroenterologists in MFT who deliver inpatient care to three large acute hospitals (NMGH, Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital) and outpatient care across Manchester and Trafford.
Preferred Clinical Sub-Specialties
This job is open to applicants with any sub-specialty interest in gastroenterology; however, the structure of the existing clinical gastroenterology team in MFT means that applications from colleagues with sub-specialties in luminal gastroenterology, especially in aspects of nutrition and cancer, are preferred.
Main duties of the job
The exact duties of the appointees will be subject to discussion, but a proposed programme of weekly sessions is based on a working week of 10 PAs (units of Professional Activity) in accordance with the Terms and Conditions – Consultants (England) 2003. It is expected that PAs will be worked flexibly; flexibility in job planning is of particular importance for this role because of the need to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Working for our organisation

We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate, so you’ll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.
We’ve also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient and staff experience, operational effectiveness and drive research and innovation through the introduction of Hive, our brand-new Electronic Patient Record system which we launched in September 2022.
We’re proud to be a major academic Research Centre and Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. What’s more, we’re excited to be embarking on our new Green Plan which will set out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable.
At MFT, we create and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, provide equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open and transparent, protecting your health and wellbeing and shaping the future of our organisation together.
