We operate 11 main news regions outside London, a Political & Weather Unit and three current affairs & factual teams at ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border. Our news teams produce flagship regional programmes on weekdays plus local bulletins during Good Morning Britain, at lunchtime, after News at Ten and at weekends. We welcome people who can bring fresh perspectives and experiences to our teams. We are particularly keen to receive applications from those who are from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people and those from lower socio economic groups as we recognise that individuals from these groups are currently under-represented in our industry. The Opportunities Our placements are a great opportunity for anyone interested in what happens in a busy newsroom environment and to get a feel for what it’s really like to work in TV Journalism - technically or editorially. We are offering the opportunity of in-person placements in our newsrooms for those who live within commuting distance to one of our locations. These placements are predominantly arranged over one or two days with the maximum being two weeks duration. Alternatively, we are offering a one day on-line virtual event hosted by our newsroom colleagues. Candidates invited for either opportunity will learn from talented members of our teams who will share their skills and experience. For those invited into the newsroom you will shadow the people who make and shape our programmes and digital content and have the opportunity to sit in our studio galleries to watch our live bulletins and programmes. Placements may differ and activities could include shadowing a journalist and crew on location, taking part in editorial or technical activities, having the opportunity to ask lots of questions and gain an invaluable insight into what we do. To help you decide if these opportunities are right for you, here is a some more information about our teams\: Production team The multi-skilled production team provides technical and craft support across all areas of news production and ensures that all the work the journalists do is delivered to the highest broadcast quality when it goes out on TV. They work closely with camera operators, weather presenters and graphic designers. Editorial team Our editorial team are journalists who uncover stories, interview people at the heart of our stories, hold people in power to account and reflect and celebrate the region they serve. They shoot and edit pictures and post content across a host of social media platforms. Our presenters are part of the editorial team. Am I eligible to apply? To be considered for these opportunities you will need to be at least 18 years old and for in-person placements to live within the region that you are applying for. You can only apply for one region/nation. If you are in full time education in years 11 or 12, we will consider you for the on-line virtual placements. You do not need to have a formal qualification but you should be familiar with ITV national and regional news, have an interest in news as a career and bring your own ideas.
