BAM UK&I are looking for an experienced commercial manager to join our frameworks team out of our Leeds office.
Your mission
1. Responsible for all commercial aspects of a portfolio of framework tenders.
2. Ensure that BAM's commercial position is protected using an in-depth understanding, and experience of contractual, commercial insurance and legal processes.
3. Manage effective client relationship management to encourage smooth commercial progression of the framework tender. Attend market engagements, 1-2-1 sessions and provide liaison with the client, PQS, and senior staff on commercial and legal issues.
4. Provide commercial support to the call-off tendering process when required including the pricing submission and commercial quality responses.
5. Prepare commercial Briefing Reports, develop the commercial strategy and chair the Commercial Director Settlement for framework tenders.
6. Manage and provide development and support for a team of commercial staff, including participation in selection and recruitment. Carry out Personal Development Reviews including setting objectives in line with the objectives of the Business.
7. Responsible for the planning and management of own work and the work of others.
8. Lead the commercial discipline to ensure the commercial success of all framework tenders, contributing to the commercial performance of the Segment.
9. Lead staff to ensure they are fully engaged during framework tenders to achieve the required output.
10. Work closely with all other disciplines, providing commercial support and direction where needed.
11. Liaise with other BAM businesses - Nuttall, Ireland, Ventures, Design and Services Engineering, to create synergies and offer added-value services to clients whenever possible.
12. Share all market information gleaned at framework and project level with the regions and the wider company when relevant.
13. Develop close relationships with clients, consultants and the supply chain with a view to building long-term productive relationships.
14. Manage and coordinate staff requirements in line with the overall demands of the region's workload.
15. Ensure compliance with BAM's Best Practice procedures and ensure direct reports do likewise.
16. Report to Divisional Leadership on the financial performance of public-sector framework projects when required.
17. Participate in national business improvement initiatives as required.
18. Responsible for managing the internal governance process including Stage Gate, Tender Desk approval and adherence with BAM Baseline on a Comply or Explain basis.
19. Prepare the yearly Operating Expenditure budget for the National Framework Team.
20. Monthly management of the budget for the National Framework Team including analysing the monthly CTC breakdown against internal expenditure.
21. Agree and apply internal Framework Charges with the regional Commercial Directors and BAM Finance.
22. Approval and payment of invoices using Basware.
Who are we looking for?
1. Demonstrable experience working at a senior level with strong interpersonal skills.
2. Ability to effectively engage with BAM staff, clients and external consultants while building relationships internally and externally.
3. Understanding of both private and public sector project procurement processes.
4. Comfortable working in a time-critical, fast-moving environment.
5. Contractually aware and able to work collaboratively to achieve desired outcomes.
6. Effective and persuasive internal and external oral and written communication skills.
7. Ability to multi-task and provide focus, direction and solutions where required.
8. Noteworthy track record of administering successful contracts.
9. Effective commercial/contract management skills with knowledge of best practice contract methodologies.
10. Good commercial skills and ability to make sound decisions on matters of financial value.
11. Understanding of contract performance measurement, risk and opportunity management and change and claim management.
12. Good negotiating, influencing and communication skills to command professional respect at all levels.
13. Familiarity with common forms of contract within the construction industry is essential.
