Senior Scientist (Characterization)

An exciting opportunity for an ambitious Senior Scientist with Protein Characterisation (RP, SEC, icIEF) and/or Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) experience to join our outstanding team at Lonza. Based in Slough (UK), this role is pivotal to our ongoing success and growth. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for planning and execution of analytical testing on therapeutic proteins to support product Characterisation and Biocomparability studies for our customers.
You will collaborate with peers across teams to ensure meticulous execution of projects and identify refinements to our standard ways of working. This role offers an outstanding chance to input into significant scientific advancements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Independent planning and execution of analytical assays, including HPLC based methods, electrophoresis, and LC/MS based methods to characterise a range of biologics products.
2. Execution of assigned assays with a focus on safety, quality, timeliness, and accuracy adhering to regulatory requirements, where appropriate.
3. Complete and peer review laboratory documentation.
4. Maintenance of analytical equipment, technologies, and/or systems required to support characterisation stages.
5. Communicate progress and escalate challenges to Line Manager and/or study director as appropriate.
6. Identify, troubleshoot, and escalate technical issues in an effective and timely manner.
7. Deliver practical training and actively participate in scientific discussions.
8. Join the out-of-hours call-out rota to respond to alarms on cold storage units.
Key Requirements:
1. Practical industry experience in a relevant laboratory environment including HPLC, LC-MS, and electrophoresis.
2. Experience in the use and troubleshooting of a range of analytical equipment.
3. Theoretical knowledge of protein chemistry and regulatory requirements applicable to performing characterisation and biochemical comparability studies.
4. Capability to analyse data, interpret results, and perform root cause analyses.
5. Ability to work collaboratively in a team to ensure business, regulatory, and customer needs are met.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills for customer interactions and training.
7. Ability to draft protocols, reports, and SOPs.
