People aged 55 to 74 who are current or former smokers will be invited to have a lung cancer screen in Dorset, via the Dorset Lung Cancer Screening Programme. Lung health checks are an important check-up of the overall health of your lungs and can spot any early signs of lung problems. The checks are designed to spot any signs of lung problems early – often before you notice anything is wrong. If lung cancer, or another problem with your breathing or lungs is found early, treatment could be simpler and more successful.
This post will act as the programme primary care link, to include support with establishing the programme, rolling it out, monitoring the results from it, and education of primary care teams in Dorset about the Lung cancer screening programme.
This position will give the postholder an extraordinary opportunity to contribute to the leadership of a project to identify asymptomatic people, providing early diagnosis of both lung cancer and other lung diseases and then planning appropriate follow-up
The post holder will be an integral role supporting the programme operating with a robust governance structure.
To support the Clinical Director in the strategic development of the Lung cancer screening programme.
To provide clinical leadership to ensure the programme operates within national protocols.

To liaise, co-ordinate and support primary care leads that work on the programme.
To join, when necessary, national Lung cancer screening programme calls with the view to provide updates on delivery, outcomes to the national Lung cancer screening programme team.
Attend Lung cancer screening programme MDT meetings and complete outcome forms for patient with non-Respiratory specific incidental findings e.g., coronary artery calcification.
Work collaboratively with local health care providers and working in partnership to support pathway development and design, modelling strong collaborative behaviours that focus on improving patient outcomes.
Combine clinical expertise with operational knowledge, converting delivery and operational findings into clinical learning.
Contribute to the strategic planning process and delivery of priorities and manage consequential adjustments to activities.
Contribute to Delivery Meetings with varied internal and external key stakeholders to facilitate the delivery of the strategic objectives.
Contribute where applicable to the Quality Assurance meetings with programme delivery partners to ensure safe, quality programme adhered to.
Support management of the activities necessary to ensure delivery.
Prepare and manage plans for project maintenance and expansion, engaging various stakeholders to build momentum and support.
Share responsibility for proposing and drafting changes, implementation and interpretation to policies and guidelines which may impact service delivery.
Attend scheduled meetings, scheduled development days, relevant meetings in line with the Lung cancer screening programme Portfolio.
Produce closure report and analysis for Lung case finding report for Dorset Cancer Partnership.
Providing primary care input to the lung cancer pathway by attending lung SSG meetings and Dorset Lung cancer screening programme group.
To attend Lung cancer screening programme steering Board and Task and Finish Groups to provide insights and leadership for primary care contribution and inclusion in the programme.
Provide oversight, input and delivery of lung cancer education- primary care and the public with a Dorset focus, feeding back into Wessex Cancer Alliance.
