Due to the development of new roles and opportunities, a vacancy has arisen in the role of Governance Nurse Lead.
Main duties of the job
1. Promote a culture where clinical governance and patient safety are integrated into the care and wellbeing of all patients, staff, and families, promoting a culture of participation, openness, and accountability.
2. Support staff and guide them in the management of incidents and complaints, promoting reflection on practice and disseminating learning.
3. Lead on the implementation and management of change in response to learning from incidents, ensuring that any necessary actions are taken to prevent similar incidents occurring.
4. Ensure the appropriate level of investigation is undertaken in response to incidents, reflecting the severity of incidents.
5. Ensure incident reporting via relevant trust and national governance pathways.
6. Ensure the Trust Neonatal Safety Champion is kept up to date.
7. Report to and participate in relevant Trust and Network level Governance and Risk meetings.

Job responsibilities
1. Work in partnership with the Neonatal Matron/Clinical Lead to manage the complaints process.
2. Co-ordinate the prompt and succinct management of neonatology complaints within required timeframes.
3. Maintain a high standard of investigation through the co-ordination of multi-professional responses.
4. Within sphere of role, produce written responses to complaints which are considered, factual, empathetic, and patient-orientated and reflect a document which can be distributed on behalf of the Trust. Arrange and facilitate meetings with parent(s) and their families and key staff members.
5. Maintain a current log of complaints.
6. Support the service to instigate changes in practice or systems in response to issues identified through the Trust complaint procedure.
7. Provide advice for staff at departmental level and enable frontline staff to deal with complaints appropriately.
8. Support the complaints process through ongoing dialogue with the Trust's Patient Advice and Liaison Services Team (PALS).
9. Ensure staff involved in the complaints process are supported in a sensitive manner.
10. Produce timely reports which detail the themes and trends over designated reporting periods e.g., previous quarter.
11. Regularly feedback to the Management Team and the staff regarding trends and themes or individual issues.
12. Liaise with and provide any documentation required.
13. Act as the point of contact for the Patient Advice and Liaison Services Team (PALS).
14. Act as the point of contact for families.

Qualifications
Essential
* 1st Level Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife
* Significant experience working as a band 6 within a Neonatal Unit
* Working knowledge of the incident process
Desirable
* Risk management experience
* Complaints management
Post registration Qualification in Neonatology
