Boortmalt promotes a positive health and safety culture, and as such, it is a requirement that the post holder prioritises health and safety and ensures that our standards in terms of product safety, quality, and environment are followed.
Operating the plant and monitoring the production process to ensure the production of malt in accordance with product specifications, cycle-times, and efficiency criteria. Ensuring that all actions are undertaken safely and in compliance with quality and food safety requirements.
Production - Responsible for the processing of barley into malt. This includes operating the plant to instigate each of the processes associated with the production of malt – Steeping, Germination, and Kilning. Undertake process checks and samples throughout the production process – this activity requires mobility throughout the plant and requires climbing numerous flights of stairs throughout the shift.
Safety - Ensure that all activities are undertaken in accordance with Health and Safety procedures and where required, ensuring that the appropriate PPE is worn.
Hygiene - Ensuring that work areas are kept tidy and free of debris. This involves sweeping and bagging of grain, manual handling of waste products, shovelling, and sweeping. Use of hoses and water under pressure for cleaning. Cleaning/hosing of machinery on completion of a process.
Quality - Ensure that the appropriate steps and processes are undertaken to maximise First Time Right (FTR) output. Ensure that any issues that impact FTR are highlighted and addressed.
Communications - Ensure that there is a comprehensive handover to other operators at shift change times. Work closely with other departments, e.g., hygiene and engineering, to ensure that the plant is running efficiently and good standards of hygiene are maintained.
What we are looking for?
Experience in equipment maintenance and safety management.
Experience in malting, grain processing, brewing, or food manufacturing activities is desired.
Willing to work in a 12-hour shift pattern that rotates through days, nights, and weekends.
Fluently English.
Proactive and willing to learn the malting process.
Physically in shape, you will have to walk through stairs a lot and have to lift (heavy) objects occasionally.
Accurate and precise.
