I have been assigned by an NHS Trust in the UK to help them recruit a Consultant in Anaesthetics on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months.
Our client has responsibility for the health of over 500,000 people and is one of the largest providers of integrated healthcare in the UK. With a budget of over £1 billion and employing 17,000 people, the Health Board provides acute, tertiary, intermediate, mental health, community, and primary care services to people in Neath, Port Talbot, Swansea, and beyond.
Our clients have over 70 Consultant Anaesthetists delivering excellent clinical services in a range of specialities including regional and tertiary services. These posts will also help support the expansion of the range of services we currently offer, which include development of a new Thoracic Centre for South Wales, Post Anaesthetic Care Units to facilitate the Theatres redesign and modernisation programme, and the COVID recovery programme. The Department offers many varied opportunities to capture most career aspirations within Anaesthetics including the EMRTS air ambulance service hosted by Swansea Bay, perioperative medicine, the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastics, and Cardiothoracic tertiary services. Research and Development and teaching are fundamental to the service as a result of close working links with Swansea University Medical School, currently ranked 4th in the UK.
The appointee will be asked to undertake various duties, which will include:
1. Provide a clinical service, with colleagues, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness.
2. Work with consultant colleagues and the multi-professional team to have continuing responsibility for the well-being of all patients under your care, allowing for proper delegation to, and training of staff.
3. In partnership with clinical and managerial colleagues, have responsibility for the safe, efficient, and effective functioning of the services in which you work in line with the values, operational policies, and integrated medium term plan (IMTP) of the Health Board.
4. Make a significant contribution to the service and clinical support services directorate planning process through active participation in the clinical support services directorate structure.
5. Adhere to all policies which cover radiation exposures as currently outlined in IRMER regulations.
6. Have the opportunity to teach and train medical undergraduates in line with the Undergraduate training programme and take on clinical governance and audit duties.
