What's involved with this role: Interim Building Control Surveyor Brent 5261741 Key Requirements: Possession of, or studying towards, a University Degree or equivalent in a building related subject and be able to progress to full membership of RICS, CIOB or CABE. Registered with the Building Safety Regulator to at least Level 5 (no later than the end of March 2024). Good analytical / Research skills to appraise complex, unique and innovative solutions. Substantial experience and successful track record of dealing with a range of commercial, residential and mixed-use projects including fire engineered solutions. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of national and regional Building Control issues. Ability to undertake site inspections in an effective and efficient manner, so as to be able to verify constructional compliance. Ability to write and/or present clear and concise reports, letters and statements on behalf of the Directorate. Ability to present the Council’s position in public meetings, public inquiries, informal hearings, formal and informal meetings with Councillors and with representatives of public, private and voluntary sectors and be an expert witness at court. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite). As a Building Control Surveyor, you will report to the Building Control Manager and be responsible for all aspects of Building Regulations and The Building Act. Your role will include delivering targets for a shared area within the borough including Major Projects and cross boundary working. Key Responsibilities Be responsible for and to manage their own work in consultation with the Building Control Manager, ensuring that the services provided are delivered effectively and efficiently. Contribute to the overall performance of the Section by assisting in the preparation, implementation and review of the Section Delivery Plan to maintain and improve service delivery. Actively contribute to the performance targets and outcomes of the Section and to meet personal targets in order to assist the Council in meeting its requirements to deliver the Community and Council Plans. Maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of appropriate legislation, the Building Regulations and Approved Documents, Government Guidance and Circulars, British Standards, approved Codes of Practice and Best Practice Technical Guidance. Undertake training and education, as identified in conjunction with the Section Manager, with a commitment to obtaining appropriate qualifications and membership of Professional Organisations relevant to the post, and to further develop their knowledge and expertise as required.
