The post would be ideal for candidates wanting to apply for a National Training Number in Paediatrics, as it will provide broad experience in a wide range of acute paediatric presentations to the emergency department, with the scope of spending time on the Day Assessment Unit (DAU) in the Paediatric Unit and attending some Paediatric clinics during admin/ SPA days. Successful candidates will spend 6 months working within the new Children's area in the Emergency Department. Shift patterns incorporate working weekday normal days (08:00 - 18:00hrs), weekday late shifts (13:00 - 22:30hrs), weekend day shifts (08:00-18:00) and weekend late shifts (13:00 -22:30). There is a 1 in 3 weekend commitment. Rota times and shifts will be annualised and will be compatible with the terms and conditions of the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract. Main duties of the job The ED Children's doctor will see children presenting acutely to the ED (Resus, Majors and minors) in the dedicated Children's area and in the Resus Room. They will be always supported by an ED Consultant/ Registrar. The daytime doctor will be expected to review all overnight Paediatric discharges to ensure all safeguarding paperwork are completed and this will be supported by the PEM Consultant. The doctor will be expected to attend monthly joint Paediatric and ED simulations held in the Resus room or in the simulation suite. They will be expected to participate or assist in the running of the simulations as part of their SPA time. They will be expected to attend all Paediatric related teaching sessions that are held on the Paediatric ward or in ED. If there are few children to be seen in the ED, the doctor could discuss attending Paediatric clinics and/or spend time in the Day Assessment Unit (DAU) for part of the day. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in regional meetings, get involved in regional development of Paediatric guidelines and be involved and lead on QIPs relating to Paediatric service development. All Paediatric competencies covered in ED will be based on the RCEM 2021 Curriculum.
