Number of Volunteers required: 8
Description:
As part of CLaY: Communities, Libraries and You, Stoke-on-Trent Libraries are setting up Perinatal support groups in libraries. These groups will provide peer support for mums from pregnancy through the 12 months following birth. They are designed to provide a relaxed social setting where new and expectant mums can talk to other parents, make new connections, and seek support and information.
We are looking for caring individuals with experience of being a parent themselves who would feel confident in welcoming new mums and their babies to the group, helping them to make new friends, listening to any worries that they might have, and supporting them to find information and support with professional organisations where necessary.
Perinatal support groups will also provide a safe space for babies and toddlers to play together, share rhymes, songs, and books. Training will be provided by Just Family CIC in the form of 2 half-day training sessions and will include trauma awareness.
We are looking for:
* a friendly person with great social skills
* someone who is warm and caring and can engage well with adults and children
* someone with patience and good listening skills
* someone with knowledge of useful community support services
* 12 months commitment (ideally)
