Preconstruction Manager
Overview: Our client, a Main Contractor specialising in commercial fit-outs and refurbishments in London and the South-East, is seeking a Preconstruction Manager. The company handles projects of varying sizes and complexities, with values ranging from £250k to millions.
Responsibilities: The Preconstruction Manager will manage tender opportunities from qualification to contract award, reporting to the Preconstruction Director. They will be involved in all aspects of tender submissions, ensuring alignment with client requirements. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of commercial considerations, risk management, strategy development, and value proposition.
The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of fit-out processes for both architectural and services disciplines, ideally gained from previous site-based project management roles. They will work closely with Estimating, Project/Services Management, Sustainability, and H&S teams to ensure comprehensive bid coverage.
Tenders: The Preconstruction Manager will develop tender documentation, participate in site visits, understand all architectural, services, and structural requirements, and develop the tender programme. They will attend all relevant meetings, liaise with client teams, manage support from other teams, develop bid strategy, assist the admin team with non-technical content, and ensure project solutions demonstrate clear USPs and strategic advantage.
Interviews: The Preconstruction Manager will create informative interview documents, ensure content relevance, arrange practice sessions before tender interviews, and attend mid-bid and post-tender interviews when required.
Skills: The role requires a thorough understanding of the commercial fit-out industry, the bid process, copywriting skills, the ability to generate accurate tender stage programmes, excellent communication and administration skills, and the ability to work in a team. Previous experience in a bid/tender management role is preferred but not essential.
