We are currently looking for two Wildlife Assistants to join our brilliant team at Mallydams Wood Wildlife Centre.
Mallydams Wood is a wildlife rehabilitation and education centre that also contains a woodland nature reserve. We are equipped to deal with a variety of wild animals, from orphaned fox cubs to oiled birds, and have a knowledgeable and experienced team who treat, rehabilitate and release wildlife casualties, as well as monitor their survival in the wild.
Working hours: 35 hours per week. Shifts take place between 08.00 and 20.00 on a rota basis including weekends.
Contract: 4-month fixed-term contract.
Interview dates: interviews are expected to be held between 15 and 17 April.
If you are enthusiastic about wildlife conservation, enjoy hands-on work with animals, and are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of British wildlife, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding opportunity. Be part of our mission to protect and rehabilitate our precious wildlife for a sustainable and thriving ecosystem.
As a Wildlife Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
1. Maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of our facilities.
2. Providing hands-on care and rehabilitation for various wildlife species.
3. Collaborating with different departments and organizations to ensure the well-being of our animal patients.
To excel in this role, we are looking for individuals with previous experience in wildlife care, particularly in animal welfare or charity settings.
Essential skills include wild animal handling, assessment, and first aid, along with emotional resilience to handle distressed wildlife.
Your days will be dynamic and demanding, requiring excellent organisational skills, the ability to work independently, and to communicate effectively with the wider team.
Additionally, proficiency in maintaining digital records and access to reliable transportation are important for this position due to our rural location.
There may be times when the postholder will be required to take our patients to a local Vet. For this reason, it is desirable that you have a full manual driving licence; however, we will still consider candidates without this who can demonstrate they have experience working with wildlife.
For further information please refer to the job description attached to this advert.
Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles may need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK as we are unable to sponsor visas.
We are really lucky that some of our roles attract a high level of interest, and for this reason, we review applications as they are received. Unfortunately, on some occasions, this means roles may close earlier than advertised, so early submissions are highly recommended.
We do try to give feedback where we can, but sometimes, due to receiving high levels of applications, this may not always be possible.
We recognise that a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to achieving our core mission. For this reason, we actively encourage a wide diversity of applications, in particular from members of minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities, as these candidates are currently under-represented at the RSPCA.
Should you need any support with your application or interview process please contact resourcingteam@rspca.org.uk.
