Description The role will be working closely with the Sergeants of all three geographical areas to triage the investigations in the Main inbox allocated to Non Recent RASSO team. A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Detective Constable to join the Non-Recent Rape and Serious Sexual Offences (RASSO) team as a triage officer. The role will be working from either Sutton Coldfield Police Station (before closure or another local Bham location), West Bromwich Police Station or Coventry Willenhall Police Station, Chace Avenue this will be discussed with the suitable candidate and can be flexible on the three locations. Please note: The Non-Recent RASSO team central will be moving to Stechford Police Station from April 2026 but will remain in the short term at Sutton Coldfield Police Station. This team investigate non-recent allegations of child sexual abuse reported as adults. The team work closely with partners to help safeguard victims, whilst building evidential cases for Crown Court. This is a hugely rewarding area, providing an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of victims, whilst ensuring that some of the most dangerous offenders are dealt with in a way that ensures justice for the victim and protection for our communities. The team deal with child sexual abuse allegations reported by adults. The work is critical and complex but both challenging and rewarding. The team work Monday - Friday with one weekend in three. The vacancy is for 24hrs per week, shift pattern and location to be negotiated with the successful candidate who will be working from either Sutton Coldfield, West Bromwich or Chace Avenue. Key Responsibilities: Triage all reports that come into the Main management inbox Make initial contact with the victim Submit referrals to partner agencies Identify, assess and tailor engagement with victims according to Victims Code and investigatory objectives and conduct appropriate needs assessments with victims. Manage victim contact plans and manage own workload against the performance dashboard. Identify and risk assess suspects to determine whether they should be arrested as a priority Complete risk assessments and provide appropriate initial support for victims during an investigation, through the formulation of a victim safety plan if required, to ensure their safety and well-being. Provide information regarding additional services available for victims, including signposting to support agencies, and explain Criminal Justice and Court procedures, so that they can access all available services and support. Work in partnership with agencies, such as social workers, health professionals, Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) and Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) or local equivalents, to develop networks, enable best use of resources, enable joined up approaches to services, and drive safeguarding of victims. Engage and adhere with the WMP Conversation process, including the formation and regular review of personal, departmental and force objectives. Ensure investigations are compliant with the Victims Code, Management of Police Information (MOPI) and Home Office Counting Rules audits (HOCR). At all times, act with the highest level of integrity and treat people fairly and with respect. Essential Criteria: Substantive at the rank of constable, or within 3 months of being so. Display excellent communication skills with people inside and out of our organisation. Be highly motivated, driven and maintain the highest levels of integrity. A working knowledge of all legislation, policy and procedure relevant to the role, including, but not limited to, the Achieving Best Evidence Guidance and Directors Guidance on Charging, sixth edition Knowledge of partner agencies that provide bespoke support for victims of RASSO offences. Desirable Criteria: Experience of investigating serious and complex offences. Experience of investigating RASSO offences Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter-Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
