As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and optimising site machinery to support reliable, efficient operations. Working on a shift-based rota, you’ll carry out hands-on maintenance, fault finding, and repairs across a range of mechanical equipment, helping to minimise downtime and keep production running smoothly.
Key responsibilities include:
* Adhere to all Health & Safety, Hygiene, Quality and Environmental Policies and Procedures.
* Perform regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and servicing of mechanical equipment and systems to ensure operational efficiency as directed by the PPM system by the Maintenance and Site Services Manager or the Mechanical Maintenance Team Leader.
* Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults and breakdowns promptly to minimize downtime.
* Carry out repairs or replace defective parts on all mechanical equipment, thermoformers, extruders, print machines, enrobing machines, compressors, chillers, conveyors, pumps, motors, HVAC systems and gearboxes.
* Complete all paperwork, operational and maintenance, service reports, handovers and Rhombus reports as required.
* Assist with the installation, commissioning, and testing of new machinery.
* In the event of a fire, carry out duties of a fire marshall and be the point of contact for the fire panel and investigation of the location of the fire.
* Identify opportunities for improving machinery performance and reliability, and recommend upgrades or modifications.
* Work closely with all maintenance team members, production teams, and external contractors to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve issues efficiently.
* Help to maintain accurate records for parts inventory and escalate as necessary to allow reorder.
* Manage inventory of mechanical spare parts, tools, and supplies, ensuring availability and efficient use of resources.
* Participate in root cause analysis investigations to address recurring issues and implement long-term corrective actions.
* Help maintain the site's fire alarm system and carry out tests once a week.
* Work with production and tooling and highlight examples of poor machine or tooling operations to those departments that, if not corrected, would otherwise cause a maintenance issue.
* Carry out any reasonable ad hoc tasks or duties as directed by the Maintenance and Site Services Manager or other site managers.
Essential Qualifications:
* Time served and/or completed a recognised mechanical qualification (City & Guilds, ONC/HNC).
* Engineering background in a relevant manufacturing environment.
* Knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, and HVAC.
* Knowledge of PPMs.
* Good problem-solving skills and knowledge using Root Cause Analysis or similar.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Welding and fabrication skills.
* Abrasive wheels skills.
Shift Pattern:
* Panama Schedule: 12-hour shifts covering days, nights, and weekends, averaging 42 hours per week.
Salary:
* Starting £46,000 (inclusive of shift allowance).
