Ward Clerk - Rehabilitation and Recovery Unit

We are recruiting to a variety of roles working as part of an innovative MDT. You will be working for Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust with your base at either The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital or The Princess Royal Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference to the care of patients enabling them to step down to their normal place of residence faster.
There is an expectation to cover both sites where deemed necessary so ability to travel easily between is essential.

Main duties of the job
* To provide full administration and clerical support to the ward multidisciplinary team.
* To be the first point of contact in welcoming and answering patient/visitor queries on the ward.
* To take a lead role in maintaining accurate patient notes and data on the trust electronic patient administration systems at all times.
* Answer telephones, dealing courteously, efficiently and sympathetically with calls and personal enquiries, referring to nursing staff as appropriate.
* Provide a reference point for the rehabilitation ward for all queries connected with the ward, dealing with these enquiries in the first instance and referring them appropriately where necessary pleasantly, efficiently and sympathetically.
* At the discretion of the nurse in charge, communicate appropriately with other departments e.g. telephoning patient referrals to consultants, follow up ultrasound, x-ray results etc.

Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
* GCSE grade C or above in English language and Maths or equivalent
Experience
* Substantial relevant clerical experience e.g., customer care, keyboard skills, organisation.
Knowledge & Skills
* Professional telephone skills / manner
* Excellent face to face verbal communication e.g. with potentially anxious and distressed patients and visitors
* Working knowledge of computerised systems and ability to learn quickly
* To work effectively alone or as part of a team
Other
* The ability to meet the travel requirements of the post
