In this leadership role, you’ll guide our Local Flood Risk Team, shaping strategy and delivering innovative flood resilience schemes in collaboration with partners like the Environment Agency and United Utilities. A confident communicator, you’ll provide expert advice to stakeholders and engage effectively with the public and community groups.
The Role
* To ensure the effective fulfilment of the statutory duties and services on behalf of Cheshire East Council.
* In collaboration with the Council’s Head of Highways support the development and implementation of policies, strategies, and design guidance in relation to the council’s role as Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA).
* Provide subject matter expertise as the lead advisor on behalf of the Authority on managing flood risk and ensuring ongoing community resilience to flood and water management issues.
* Support the flood and water management team with the delivery of projects related to flood risk management, fluvial and surface water flooding, and drainage to development sites through coordination with its external partners and stakeholders.
* Embed knowledge and understanding of Flood and Water Management Act (2010) and ensure the delivery of the actions set out in the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (2016) and Surface Water Management Plan (2016).
About You
* A suitable water or environmental qualification or equivalent (minimum HNC however, Degree level would be advantageous)
* Experienced in getting work done through others by managing people and performance
* Knowledge of local government organisations including committee structures, councillor relationships and the need to be able to demonstrate value for money to local residents
* Experience of building effective working partnerships and working with external and national stakeholders/partners (e.g., Environment Agency, Internal Drainage Board, United Utilities)
* Previous experience of working in a public facing role, with an ability to interpret complex technical information and explain to non-technical terms to policy makers and budget holder, including senior management, Councilors, and other client officers
