The Function
The Digital & Tech department is structured into two core functions:
1. Digital Transformation – Focused on business applications, data, integration, and automation.
2. Technology Operations (Tech Ops) – Focused on IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, vendor management, and desktop management.
The Role
The Head of Technology Operations will oversee the technology infrastructure and operational services, ensuring they meet the demands of a dynamic, regulated investment management environment. This role encompasses strategic oversight, operational excellence, and vendor accountability, focusing on maintaining robust cybersecurity and delivering seamless technology experiences.
The role requires a results-driven leader blending traditional IT expertise (Windows, LAN/WAN) and modern cloud technologies (Office 365, Azure). A strong commitment to planning, clear communication, and accountability is critical.
Responsibilities
Operational Excellence:
1. Oversee the technology lifecycle, ensuring systems remain evergreen and optimised.
2. Manage cloud and on-premises services, including backups and disaster recovery.
3. Ensure all documentation, handovers, and communications are thorough and completed to a high standard.
4. Tech Ops Budget Management.
Leadership and Team Management:
1. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team.
2. Foster collaboration and maintain open communication across teams and stakeholders.
Vendor and Partner Management:
1. Hold vendors and partners accountable, ensuring they prioritise the firm’s needs.
2. Manage the outsourced partners and vendors such as: Security Operations Centre (SOC), Desktop Support, etc.
Cybersecurity and Compliance:
1. Maintain the highest cybersecurity standards and regulatory compliance.
2. Manage risk mitigation strategies and respond promptly to vulnerabilities.
Communication and Planning:
1. Communicate effectively with the business on upcoming changes and improvements.
2. Stay ahead of technology updates, proactively planning and implementing changes.
Project Delivery:
1. Deliver projects on time and to specification, aligning with business priorities.
2. Collaborate closely with leadership on digital and operational strategies.
Essential:
1. Minimum 12 years of IT experience, including managing complex technology operations.
2. Expertise in Microsoft Cloud Services (Office 365, Azure) and traditional IT infrastructure.
3. Proven ability to maintain service levels and meet regulatory requirements.
4. Strong project management and planning skills.
5. Excellent communication, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
Essential Technical Expertise:
1. Office 365 (Teams, Intune, Defender, Autopilot).
2. Azure Identity Management, SSO, MFA, Conditional Access.
3. LAN/WAN, firewalls, and networking (L2/L3).
4. Cybersecurity tools and practices, including Microsoft Sentinel and DLP.
Desirable:
1. Experience in the financial services sector or FCA-regulated environments.
2. Familiarity with ESG-driven digital strategies.
