Job Title: Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Barrow-In-Furness, Filton, Manchester, Portsmouth, or Frimley.
Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 depending on experience

What you’ll be doing:
1. Develop a functional design and associated Bill of Materials for C&I solution for complex propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems, including deriving the functional design from Piping & Instrumentation diagrams.
2. Specifying instrumentation measuring pressure/temperature/flow/level/analysis that is fit for purpose for specific process conditions.
3. Specifying remote functionality for the C&I solution, whether that be Human Machine Interface, Cable Management & Interface Protocols.
4. Producing a C&I design that satisfies a wide range of requirements such as; functional; safety; defence standards, British standards, naval standards, nuclear standards.
5. Judging and measuring compliance against non-functional stakeholders (EMC, Shock, Metallics etc.).
6. Produce verification evidence to demonstrate design compliance with requirements.
7. Production of various design documents such as; I/O schedules, instrument schedules, cable schedules, functional design specification, instrument specification.
8. Implementation of physical system-to-system interface design.
9. Undertaking/leading technical design reviews for C&I.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
1. Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) Degree or equivalent qualification and experience within an engineering background.
2. Possess a multi-disciplinary understanding of engineering through experience including; Mechanical / Process / Instrument / Electrical / Control / Safety.
Desirable:
1. Understanding of/or previous exposure to; Control system architecture and communication protocols (i.e RS-485, PROFIBUS).
2. Completion and verification of designs in accordance with IEC 61508 – Functional Safety (or similar) and production of supporting evidence to substantiate safety claims.
3. Specifying equipment for use in Hazardous Areas and producing verification evidence such as; Hazardous Area Schedule, Intrinsically Safe Loop Calculations.

Reporting to a C&I Engineering Manager, we have opportunities for both Principal and Senior C&I professionals to join our ever growing, ever developing team at the forefront of defence and maritime technology. We will be delivering the Control & Instrumentation solution for the future class of attack submarines for the Royal Navy. To enable this, you will be working within various integrated delivery teams to closely engage with key stakeholders ensuring the design solution satisfies the wide range of submarine functional and non-functional requirements.
