Purpose of the role
Colas Ltd are looking for a Chargehand/Skilled Operative to be based at our Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Depot (NE6 5DE). The Chargehand will be working within a small structural maintenance team. Your day to day activities will involve carrying out reactive structural repairs to the structures within the City of Newcastle. You will be required to participate in out of hours call outs to emergency repairs and on occasion the setting out of traffic management and participation in winter maintenance treatments.
Main Responsibilities
As a Chargehand/Skilled Operative your role will include:
1. Acting as Chargehand to lead a small Structures Maintenance Team of between 2 to 4 people.
2. Reports to and deputises for Structures Senior Foreman.
3. 12D Traffic Management Qualification preferable (M1/M2);
4. Carry out structural reactive repairs to the satisfaction of the Client.
5. Winter maintenance qualification desirable (City & Guilds Operator Unit 613).
6. Participate in winter maintenance delivery and out of hours rota.
7. Participate in out of hours call out rota for both winter duties and emergency call-outs
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a flexible / hardworking individual who, ideally, has experience in similar structures/highways maintenance roles and HGV 2 driving experience. You will have a NVQ Level 2 in Highways Maintenance and a CSCS card. A SSSTS card is desirable. You will be comfortable leading within a small team, under minimal supervision. You will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and the public. Most importantly is that you enjoy working outdoors, in all weathers, within a crew on a flexible working pattern.
It is essential you will hold a Valid UK Driving Licence and preferably a HGV 2 Licence
Career development and progression is available, and you will have the ability to move into supervisory roles
