This key post as permanent full-time SENDCo is available from 1 September 2025, subject to satisfactory clearances and references.
You will be an associate member of our School Leadership Team, starting on point 7 of the Leadership Scale. As such, we would expect the successful candidate to be an exceptional teacher who is able to take a lead on whole school development with regard to students with learning difficulties and who has a proven track record in the delivery of relevant staff training and support.
We are seeking to appoint a well-informed, well-organised SENDCo, with good leadership and communication skills who shares the philosophy of the School, to lead/manage a talented team within a supportive context. You will be qualified to identify and enable appropriate support for those with Special Needs across all the Key Stages and manage the Learning Support team.
This post provides a unique opportunity to develop new skills in a school which has a compelling vision and deep commitment to providing exceptional SEND provision.
The Learning Support team is passionate about helping students achieve their very best whatever obstacles they may have to overcome. The successful candidate will be supported by two Deputy SENDCos and a committed team of LSAs and HLTAs. We currently employ a specialist administrator to support EHCP and Access Arrangement Administration. Additional administrative support is available from the school’s admin ‘pool’. The SENDCo is line managed by a Deputy Headteacher and the Headteacher is fully involved in SEND leadership.
Members of the English and Maths departments are involved in literacy and numeracy support, which augments and complements the work of the Learning Support Department. Learning Support has become an increasing resource for teachers who want to discuss adaptive teaching strategies for quality first teaching. The team has also developed access arrangements and empowered students to use them effectively. The team has sought to develop their expertise in areas such as attachment disorder and mobility issues as students with particular needs have joined the school. We always seek to integrate students into mainstream lessons with the minimum of well-targeted interventions and withdrawal to promote rapid progress.
We have good relationships with a wide range of external agencies for students with additional needs, such as behaviour consultants, a Speech and Language Therapist, Counsellors, and an Educational Psychologist. The calm, purposeful, happy atmosphere of the school makes this a positive and supportive place to be a SENDCo.
We are passionate about providing opportunity for all staff to develop. The School invests heavily and productively in ensuring that staff and leaders have every opportunity to develop their expertise for the benefit of students. Professional development for staff is extremely well planned and implemented; it is linked closely to teachers’ targets for improvement.
