About the Position
We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer, with approximately 10 years of professional experience, who is ready to take on the responsibility of a Lead Engineer. This position involves managing and guiding a skilled team of mechanical and electrical engineers to deliver the design phase of a large mechanical handling crane project for the MoD. The role offers an initial six-month contract with a high likelihood of extension for the remaining 15-month design phase.
Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Management:
Lead and manage a design team of 8-10 engineers across mechanical and electrical disciplines. Ensure effective project planning, delegation, and resource allocation.
Design Development:
Oversee the design of mechanical handling systems, including cranes and associated equipment. Provide technical expertise and ensure designs meet client specifications and project objectives. Ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical components.
Compliance & Quality:
Maintain adherence to relevant industry standards and safety regulations. Conduct risk assessments and quality reviews of designs.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Act as the main technical contact with MoD representatives and other key stakeholders. Present project progress and address technical queries effectively.
Team Support:
Foster a collaborative environment and mentor team members. Identify skill development opportunities within the team.
Experience Required
* Minimum of 10 years in an engineering role, with substantial experience in mechanical handling systems or equivalent large-scale projects.
* Proven experience leading engineering teams or working in a senior engineering capacity.
Requirements
Educational Background:
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent). or Apprenticeship
Technical Skills:

Strong understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering principles.

Proficiency with design software (e.g., CAD, FEA tools).

Familiarity with standards and compliance requirements in defence or heavy machinery sectors.
