10-1pm 2pm-5pm Friday

We are a large Christian family living in our family home in Llangennech. Consisting of parents, 5 young adult children (3 girls and 2 boys, aged 16-26) who are all autistic, each with different needs.. Mum or Dad alternate which parent is travelling away from home for work in North Wales each week, although it is mostly Mum who is away Monday to Friday. Therefore, we require general support in and out of the home for cooking, shopping, cleaning and picking up prescriptions. This particularly is important for the sons who have special dietary needs and require prompting and encouragement to eat meals regularly (one of these is extremely underweight and this will be an ongoing task to encourage him to eat). The boys are mostly nocturnal lifestyle making it difficult to engage them. The youngest girl loves to create songs and write poetry, but she has some challenging behaviour (shouting/crying/screaming meltdowns) when stressed as she has emotional regulation difficulties.
Another essential task is to support and encourage the young persons to participate in activities in and out of the home. The children have high anxiety and prefer to stay home being extremely reluctant to access the community, assisting to improve their quality of life by sparking their interest and creativity towards achieving person centred goals, such as swimming, cinema trip, shopping, painting or craft activity, learning new skills (macrame, knitting, baking, etc).
Principal duties and responsibilities:
1. Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
2. Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community
3. Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest
4. Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
5. To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction
6. Encouraging the employer to attend appointments
7. Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours
8. To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours
9. Ability to cook is essential in this role, there will be some cookie, cake baking and dinner making responsibilities.
10. Cleaning family bathrooms, changing boys beds (fortnightly) and supporting and encouraging the girls to change their own beds is required.
11. Assisting to put on washing machine and hang out and fold washing.
12. Assisting to make phone calls when required (such as GP, hairdresser etc).
13. To ensure compliance with Data Protection Act.
14. Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on (01267 228751)
15. Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.

Job Working Environment:
Working in employer’s homes and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.
Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

4. Has good local knowledge of the area where the employer lives.
5. Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer’s requirements.
6. Ability to keep simple records such as time recording.
7. Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.
8. Able to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.
9. A full, clean driving licence and use of a car will be required. This is determined by the needs of the employer and whether you live within walking distance.
10. You must be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours
11. Be prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employers need.
