Location: Portsmouth (HM Naval Base) Service Area: Service Delivery, Alongside Services (ALS) Hours of Work: 37 Per week Salary: Competitive What You’ll be doing: The Port Operative Craft role is an exciting opportunity to work in a safe and flexible manner, primarily as a mobile Crane operator. Reporting to the Lifting Services Team Manager, you’ll be working as part of the Lifting Services Team responsible for providing heavy lift services to Naval Ships and other areas of Portsmouth naval Base. The role is primarily to act as a mobile crane operator, undertaking training to enable you to operate all crane types and capacities, i.e. Gantry, dockside, and tower cranes. Whilst undertaking all types of plant and carrying out all aspects of any tasks as required by the Team Leader, you’ll also be involved in slinging operations, operating MHE, and assisting the rigging department with line handling and other tasks as required. You’ll Have: As an experienced mobile crane operator with a current licence, you’ll also be the holder of a full UK driving licence which includes LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) Class C/HGV 2. Professionally, you’ll be able to demonstrate a good understanding of LOLER, PUWER & BS 7121, be able to demonstrate a flexible approach and be willing to learn new skills and be a pro-active team player, able to demonstrate good people and behavioural skills. About you: Coupled with the relevant experience required for the role, you’ll know the difference between an intermediate and complex lift. With a specific understanding of lifting operations using various crane types and mechanical handling equipment, you’ll also be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of HM Ships layouts (advantageous) Your day-to-day approach will be flexible, linking confident Interpersonal skills. You’ll lead by example in building positive relationships, demonstrating emotionally stability, professional ability, and be approachable to all staff.
