Site Inspector / Clerk of Works – Salary up to £75,000 (happy to pay on a permanent or self-employed basis – up to £300 per day).
Our client is a building main contractor based in the West End of London and part of a £4 Billion turnover group. Their proven expertise enables them to solve the demanding and technically difficult issues often raised by new and historic buildings alike. The breadth of their experience and skills base means they deliver the whole project – from initial concept through to completion and beyond as needed. The scheme they are recruiting for entails the conversion of an existing office building in the West End of London to form a 530 bedroom hotel and is being delivered under a construction management contract. Due to the large volume of work, they are actively looking to recruit an experienced Site Inspector / Clerk of Works.
Responsibilities
1. Day to day responsibility for the quality management of construction projects.
2. Inspecting construction work and ensuring compliance with drawings and specifications.
3. Measuring and quality checking building materials.
4. Identifying defects and suggesting ways to correct them.
5. Monitoring progress and reporting to construction managers, architects, and management.
6. Keeping detailed records of work.
7. Referring to plans and taking photographs of work, along with measurements and samples.
8. Liaising with contractors, engineers, and surveyors.
9. Checking that building regulations, health and safety, legal, and ecological requirements are met.
10. Maintaining effective relationships to ensure the successful delivery of projects with all relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications
1. A demonstrable expert understanding of construction processes and technology.
2. A proven track record of helping to deliver complex projects at pace.
3. An excellent understanding of relevant legislation including building regulations, H&S, CDM, etc.
4. A ‘can-do’ attitude with a willingness to challenge conventional thinking. A proactive, positive thinking, commercially minded approach with the ability to work at pace.
5. Thoroughness, with attention to detail.
6. Able to use initiative and remain calm in stressful situations.
7. Analytical thinking skills.
8. Able to analyse quality or performance.
9. Able to carry out basic tasks on a computer or hand-held device.
10. A minimum of 3 years experience as a Site Inspector / Clerk of Works, with at least 5 years overall experience in a relevant construction-related role.
