We are seeking someone with proven experience working with service users who are alcohol dependent, preferably with experience of Medically Assisted Withdrawal from Alcohol.

Main duties of the job
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL
* Provide expertise and leadership in the field of alcohol issues, working autonomously within the guidelines and policies of the service, using evidence-based practice, and having in-depth knowledge of available treatments.
* Provide specialist advice and consultation to colleagues and others, communicating complex and sensitive information with clients, carers, local teams, and others, considering sensory and cultural barriers to communication.
* Maintain up-to-date records on all clients according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry and recording.
* Work in conjunction with the Team Manager and the Operational Services Manager to ensure that all services provided are acceptable and accessible to diverse communities.

Job responsibilities
The overall aim of the service is to improve outcomes for dependent and harmful drinkers, with a particular emphasis on physical and mental health and the reduction of bed stay and re-admission.
* Alcohol specialist intervention with inpatients as required
* Training in alcohol issues/Information and Brief Advice (IBA) within A&E and other appropriate departments to enable identification and response to alcohol issues at all levels.
* Professional input to the establishment of an effective pathway for acute inpatients requiring alcohol services.
* Act as an alcohol champion within the acute setting.
* Provide advice on the care and detoxification of patients admitted where alcohol dependence is a co-morbidity.
* Assessment for harmful drinkers where appropriate or referral to external organisations.
* Support for relatives/carers of those patients referred.
* Referral and signposting for patients into other Tier 2, 3 (or 4) services post-discharge.
* Contribute to the identification and support of patients admitted to hospital (especially those admitted frequently) for reasons related to alcohol misuse.
* Provide training in alcohol issues and IBA to appropriate clinical staff, including those in A&E and appropriate clinics.
Person Specification
* Experience of working with service users who are alcohol dependent
* Experience with alcohol detox
* Experience working with opiate dependence.
