POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the VP, Communications, Public Affairs, and Stakeholder Relations, the Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications helps lead and oversee internal communications projects and provides expert guidance on issues management files. The manager is responsible for developing and shaping strategic communications responses to internal and corporate priorities. In consultation with the VP, the manager is responsible for risk assessment, risk management and risk response as it relates to internal communication strategies and corporate objectives. The manager provides guidance and best practice approaches on project management while working with team members to foster a positive organizational culture and improve employee engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelors degree program in Communications or a related discipline required
* Masters degree in Communications or related program preferred
* Certification in Communications preferred
* Member of the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) or International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) preferred
* Minimum 5 years of progressive experience working in public/media relations and communications and working with many stakeholders required
* An understanding of the health care system is preferred
* Proven leadership qualities, exceptional communications and writing skills and the ability to function effectively in a highly intense, fast-paced environment are considered essential
* Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and effective ability to closely with multiple partners for common goals
* Demonstrated ability to work strategically and creatively and to manage risk and risk response
* Demonstrated effective project management, problem solving and time-management skills
* Demonstrated ability to engage with multiple stakeholders
* Demonstrated initiative and ability to deliver high-calibre work to deadline
* Demonstrated ability in social media and working with traditional media
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* In consultation with the VP and the Manager, Media and External Communications, develop strategic communications to strengthen the reputation and enhance the understanding of St. Joseph’s programs, services and areas of research
* Develop high impact communications to engage, inform and establish dialogue with internal stakeholders
* Responsible for maximizing the use of internal and external channels as appropriate to communicate strategic communication priorities
* Provide support to leadership in facilitating the communication of organization changes, or new initiatives/improvements/projects
* In consultation with the communications management team, make recommendations on how to improve internal communications, crisis communications and other strategic communications priorities
* Incorporate current communications methods and tools into communications initiatives and efforts
* Ensure internal communications align with brand guidelines as needed
* Serve as the communications lead for change management and internal communications on major corporate projects to provide strategic counsel, direction, plan and tactics
* Work with internal stakeholders to manage timelines, budgets, scope and expectations between multiple parties
* Develop stakeholder lists and management on key priority projects
* Demonstrate leadership skills in helping staff to achieve goals within projects and guidance in achieving professional goals, helping to create opportunities for growth within projects and assignments
* Support the professional growth of staff by encouraging continuous education and skill enhancement opportunities
* Manage employee relations issues, providing front-line issue management. Responsible for hiring, promoting, disciplining and terminating department staff in consultation with VP and human resources
* Implement all steps of the attendance enhancement program
* Involved in complex, escalated HR issues (e.g., harassment complaints, discrimination, theft, etc.)
* Develop, implement and communicate performance measures; conduct regular performance appraisals of direct reports, providing ongoing coaching and feedback
* Mentor direct reports, monitoring performance and ensuring action plans for professional development; provide learning opportunities; design development plans for talent pool management
* May represent the unit/department internally on SJHH committees, as required, and SJHH in the external community at conferences, workshops, etc.
NOTE: This position may require travel between sites and may involve on-call work.
