Job Description
The Senior Management Accountant will:
1. Lead the budget process, guiding Management Accountants and Finance Officers.
2. Develop timetables, coordinate tasks, and ensure accurate financial data capture.
3. Supervise month-end processes and key reconciliations.
4. Prepare monthly reports for the Senior Command Team and Business Executive Leaders, ensuring compliance with financial instructions.
5. Manage non-statutory returns and provide external information.
6. Align financial resources with staffing needs and ensure timely pay reconciliations.
7. Monitor team performance and ensure compliance with corporate policies.
8. Ensure adherence to Force Financial Regulations and best practices.
9. Manage ad-hoc requests, including Freedom of Information requests.
10. Champion Business Intelligence for financial reporting and system development.
11. Lead continuous improvement initiatives and review budget setting practices.
12. Manage and develop the Management Accountants team, providing leadership and performance management.
13. Deputise for the Management Accountant Lead as required.
The Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate will be/have:
- Qualified with C.C.A.B. or CIMA membership.
- Significant recent management accounting experience.
- Up-to-date with current accounting issues and practical accounting knowledge.
- IT literacy, including advanced Excel skills and experience with large ERP systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build relationships with senior managers and budget holders.
- Self-aware of personal and professional development needs.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Experience in team leadership and staff management.
