Studio Manager (with Event Planning Experience)
Oversee the studio’s daily operations, including facilities management and HR support. Manage B&P’s public-facing events, ensuring they align with the studio’s creative vision.
Objectives for the Role
The Role
Studio Operations & Facilities Management:
* Oversee daily operations to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient working environment, optimising studio space for creativity and productivity.
* Manage studio supplies, insurances, equipment, and maintenance, coordinating with vendors and service providers as necessary.
* Develop and implement health and safety policies, ensuring compliance with regulations.
* Oversee IT systems, working with external support to resolve issues promptly.
* Manage contracts and relationships with suppliers, ensuring cost-efficiency and best practices.
* Line manage the studio intern, ensuring daily activities are efficiently managed.
* Monitor studio systems and workflows, proactively addressing potential issues and ensuring operational efficiency.
* Manage studio budgets, ensuring resources are appropriately allocated.
B&P Event Management:
* Support the planning, coordination, and logistical management of Bompas & Parr’s public-facing events, including B&P banquets, talks, exhibitions, shop management, and other studio-run events.
* Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the seamless execution of these events, from initial concept to delivery.
* Oversee event setup and breakdown, ensuring all aspects are executed according to plan, including liaising with vendors and suppliers for logistical support.
* Assist in managing event budgets, ensuring cost-effective execution while maintaining the high standard expected of Bompas & Parr events.
* Act as the main point of contact for internal teams regarding event logistics, helping to ensure timely communication and alignment across all event-related activities.
* Ensure that internal events are integrated into the broader vision of Bompas & Parr, reflecting the studio’s ethos and creative direction.
HR & Recruitment:
* Support resource allocation and recruitment, assisting with job postings, CV reviews, interviews, and onboarding.
* Collaborate with the team to understand staffing needs and assist with the hiring process.
* Administer benefits and wellbeing programs, maintaining the freelance database and providing HR support.
* Act as a liaison for employee inquiries regarding policies, benefits, and performance.
About You
Qualifications:
* Experience: 2-5 years of experience in a fast-paced studio or office environment, with a focus on both studio operations and event management. You’ll need strong experience handling HR support, resource planning, and event logistics.
* Event Management: Proven track record of organising and managing public-facing events, exhibitions, or workshops. You should be skilled in event planning, from conceptualisation through to execution.
* Organisational Skills: Exceptional ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple responsibilities across different teams. You will need to juggle the dynamic nature of the studio’s operations and external event programming.
* Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders. You should be comfortable communicating at all levels and be proactive in managing relationships.
* HR Support: Experience in managing recruitment processes, including onboarding and liaising with HR teams, is key. You should have familiarity with maintaining HR compliance and supporting employee engagement.
* Technical Proficiency: Comfortable working with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools. Experience with event management software is a plus.

* To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required.
* To be able to speak knowledgeably and articulately about all aspects of the work of Bompas & Parr and to support the organisation’s principal aims and objectives.
* To communicate regularly and effectively with the Directors and to seek support from appropriate staff at the earliest opportunity should problems arise.
Please note, due to the nature of the role you will be expected to work occasional evenings and weekends. There may also be the requirement to travel internationally.

Summary of terms and conditions
* Salary based on experience, paid monthly in arrears.
* The post is based in Bompas & Parr’s studio in Barbican.
* 25 days of annual leave + 8 Bank Holidays.
* At Christmas, Bompas & Parr uses 3 days of annual leave.
* One of these days is a ‘wellness’ day which can be taken on short notice and is for your wellbeing.
* You acquire 1 day of holiday for each year you work (capped at 5 days).
* At 2 years, you can buy 5 days of holiday.
* Death in Service cover post probationary period.
* Post probationary period, employees qualify for Private Medical insurance.
* After five years of service, you earn a one-month paid sabbatical.
* After ten years of service, you earn a three-month paid sabbatical.
