Consultant Immunologist and Allergist
Applications are invited for a Consultant Immunologist to join our dedicated and enthusiastic team committed to delivering high quality clinical and laboratory services both locally and regionally.
The appointment may be full time or less than full time. This job plan offers flexibility, with options for further allergy, paediatric immunology or other special interests including research. Modification of the job content or working hours will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues. The substantive post is entitled to funded study leave and relocation expenses. Support for a relevant higher degree at a local or national university can be considered. Hospital accommodation can be arranged. There is a mentorship scheme available for all new consultant staff.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to participate in day to day functions of the immunology service and immunology laboratory, including outpatient clinics for adult patients with suspected or diagnosed immunodeficiencies or allergies, advice and guidance for clinicians within the region, supervision and management of immunoglobulin replacement for patients with primary and secondary immune deficiencies, and participation in the immunodeficiency and allergy MDTs and the subregional immunoglobulin advisory panel.
You will be required to undertake management duties and work within a multidisciplinary team, and participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, clinical audit, research and development.

Job responsibilities
The Clinical Immunology and Allergy department in Leicester provides a specialist Immunology laboratory, adult and paediatric immunodeficiency services, and delivers adult allergy services in conjunction with the Adult Allergy department. The clinical service is accredited to QPIDS and IQAS standards while the laboratory service is fully accredited by UKAS and offers a comprehensive range of immunology assays both locally and regionally for immunodeficiency, autoimmunity, allergy and haematological malignancies. The Department is a member of the regional Trent Immunology and Allergy Consortium (TRIAC) network, which aims to ensure provision of high quality Clinical Immunology and Allergy services across the broader region.
The Immunology consultants are supported by a Paediatrician with an interest in immunology, 2 Specialist Registrars, 4 Specialist Immunology and Allergy Nurses, a Band 3 Health Care Assistant and a Specialist Dietician. We work collaboratively with Consultant Allergists from the Adult Allergy department and 1 Consultant Clinical Scientist. We are supported by 3 medical secretaries (2.0 WTE) and a dedicated clinic co-ordinator.
Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists, and full GMC registration with a license to practice and inclusion on the Specialist Register (or equivalent) is a requirement.
As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000, an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Scheme check will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.

* MB BS or equivalent
* Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be on specialist register within six months of interview.
* Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
* Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
