Overview:
MacTaggart Scott are looking to recruit a Welding Supervisor to work in our Welding department.
Role:
This role reports directly into works manager.
The purpose of the role is to be ensure all welding is carried out in accordance with the production schedule, ensuring targets for delivery, cost and quality are achieved. The Welding Supervisor will also ensure all pre-fabrication and inspection checks are completed in line with approved company procedure.
This role is based on site at our Loanhead office.

Duties will include:
* Day to day responsibility for the planning and delegation of work in line with operations planning schedules to meet customer requirements and project timelines
* Supervise all production processes in line with the work to list/customer schedule, engineering drawings and best practice guidance, whilst at all times considering health and safety, COSHH and quality regulations
* Ensure all equipment in department is within calibration
* Requisitioning supplies such as gas, plate, consumables, welding wire etc. maintaining agreed budget for department
* Liaise and communicate with other departments as necessary building strong working relationships across the business
* Ensure work is completed within the estimated timescales and collaborate with operations planning to assist with the correct estimate of time needed for different finishing
* Ensure good housekeeping i.e. promote a clean safe working environment/tidy workstations, wearing of PPE
* Responsible for training needs analysis, and developing and managing the departmental plans that ensure appropriate levels of skills and flexibility are maintained within the department
* Continually look for ways in which to improve processes
* Problem solve and plan to achieve goals and meet department targets
* Undertake and complete any other duties as necessary within the department
Oversee following checks
Pre-weld
* Check / review all relevant documentation:-
* Applicable standards / code for visual acceptance requirements
* Drawings – item details and positions / tolerances etc.
* Quality control procedures
* Process / QC inspection plans etc.
* WPS requirements
* Welder qualification
* Check all consumables (including storage, distribution and usage)
* Check parent materials, dimensions, and condition
* Preheating, method, and temperature
* Check fit and set-up
* Ensure no undue stress is applied to the joint
* Check environment for cross contamination
* Check welding equipment and calibration
During Weld
* Check WPS parameter compliance and correct heat input
* Compliance with welding processes / WPS
* Ensure the correct technique, run sequence
* Check runout lengths, time-lapses
* Cleaning between passes
* Inter-pass temperatures
* Dimensional accuracy
* Consumable control
* Oversee weld records
Post Weld
* Post cleaning
* Visual inspection of completed welded joint
* Check weld contour and width
* Review PWHT
* Dimensional accuracy
* Review Weld records
* Conduct NDT in accordance with specifications
Requirements
* Have excellent communication skills and confidence in dealing with internal customers and departments.
* Have a methodical and organised work ethic in order to prioritise work, whilst setting and meeting deadlines on a weekly basis.
* Have the ability to work both on their own and as part of a team.
* Have a good working knowledge of MS Office.
