The Emergency Department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary is one of the busiest in the UK with good standards of care and performance. Our aim is to be one of the best acute and emergency serviceproviders in the UK over the next five years.

The Leicester Royal Infirmary has the only Emergency Department serving the city of Leicester and the counties of Leicestershire and Rutland and is one of the busiest in the country, treating over 230,000 new patients, a quarter of whom are children. The ED incorporates:
12 Resuscitation bays
32 bay Majors area
Minors with 10 cubicles
Seperate Paediatric ED with 12 rooms and 8 bays
16 bed Emergency Decisions unit
16 bed Emergency Frailty Unit
An exciting opportunity has arisen in our state-of-the-art Emergency Department; we are looking for doctors to join our dynamic emergency medicine team on a 12 month contract.
As well as working in one of the busiest emergency departments in the UK, you will be provided with lots of personal developmental support, including:
• A clinical and educational supervisor.
• A period of 6 weeks introduction to the NHS and our emergency department.
• Designated study days and Junior Trust Grade Teaching Programme specifically designed to equip you with the tools for Emergency Medicine.
• Opportunities to attend other established training courses.
We’re proud that doctors that have previously worked for us have successfully gone on to get training positions in emergency medicine, medical specialties and general practice.
University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) NHS Trust is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the UK. The multi-million pound Emergency Department (ED), based at Leicester Royal Infirmary, opened in April 2017, and currently sees 218,000 patients a year.
Our Emergency Room (resus) sees over 12,500 patients a year with complex multi-system pathologies, all of which provide an environment to practice challenging but very rewarding Emergency Medicine.

To work as one team providing a safe, modern, efficient and effective Emergency Medicine service to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) NHS Trust; and to deliver the highest quality of emergency care to the population of Leicester and the surrounding county (catchment population around 1 million).
The responsibilities of the post are similar to that of the FY2, ST1 and ST2 training grade doctors. The main duties and responsibilities of this post are to;
• Carry out initial assessments, investigations and manage patients in the Emergency Department
• Have flexibility to work in all areas of the department including resus, majors, injuries and paediatrics.
• Be responsilbe for arranging admissions and discharge of patients in Emergency Department
• Ensure a safe a high standard of care for all our patients
• Assist with achieving the DOH Clinical Quality Indicators for Urgency and Emergency Care
The ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team is essential to this post. You will be expected to work cohesively with therapists, Advanced Care Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists in the department.
The Emergency Department is fully computerised and it runs on the Nervecente Computer System for registration of patients, collection of patient details and retrieval of the clinical data. Patient tracking is operated via Nervecente and is the vital part of efficient functioning of ED and EDU.
