Job Description:
The Haldon is an NHS Specialist Eating Disorder Unit based in Exeter, Devon. We provide an inpatient treatment programme to promote recovery from Eating Disorders in a caring and compassionate environment.
The ward is a 10-bedded unit for people requiring intensive treatment to address the physical aspects of an Eating Disorder alongside the psychological maintaining factors.
Your role as a Qualified Nurse on Haldon would include being part of the multi-disciplinary team. This would involve supporting with identifying goals and aims of treatment, working closely with the person as part of the core nursing team, and managing daily aspects of nursing care on a busy Eating Disorder Unit.
We have substantive posts and a secondment/fixed term post available.
This fixed term/secondment period is until 30th November 2025.
Main Duties of the Job
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients and families, taking into account any communication difficulties they may have and responding appropriately, which may include neuro-diversity.
* To form and maintain therapeutic relationships and act as a Named Nurse throughout a person's admission.
* Participate in Clinical Review Meetings as part of the core nursing team.
* Meal time support, including guidance and techniques during meals and post-meal support.
* To be trained in interventions such as NG feeding, which could be under the MHA legal framework.
* Assessment of risk and management of risk in conjunction with MDT.
* Delivery of therapeutic interventions, assisting/facilitating in the running of groups and individual 1-1, offering time in positive and active engagement.
* Participate in procedures involving intensive engagement and de-escalation techniques. The role will require the post holder to perform Physical Intervention Techniques; therefore, they must declare physical fitness to undertake such a role.
* Nursing care skills including physical observations, blood sugar monitoring, and medication management.
* Be able to recognize signs of abuse and know procedures to escalate concerns.
* To act in a professional capacity with awareness of professional boundaries.
* Be able to run and organize a nursing shift.
* Oversee and support student nurses.

Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working in a Mental Health Setting.
* Understanding of Assessment, Care Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation of Nursing Care.
* Excellent understanding of neurodiversity, complex trauma, and additional needs such as communication difficulties, health, psych-social care needs, and distress.
Qualifications
* Registered Mental Health Nurse.
* Degree/HE Diploma Level.
* Additional Training or Qualifications in working with people with an Eating Disorder.
