Job summary
Do you have the skills to take on an exciting specialist role within the forward thinking & dynamic Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist Team at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital?
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative nurse who is interested in working in the field of respiratory disease management. You will need good clinical skills, a flexible approach, including excellent team working, organisational and time management skills.
You will work alongside a specialised team of Respiratory Nurses who provide inpatient & outpatient chronic respiratory disease management, working closely with other members of the multi-professional team and the community respiratory services.
Opportunities specific to the role include inpatient COPD assessments, COPD discharge bundle and participation in clinician led clinics in COPD, Bronchiectasis and oxygen.
The hours for this post at present are 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday with the potential for flexible working as the service requires.

Main duties, tasks & skills required
The post holder will perform specialist respiratory assessment and reviews of patients with COPD, Bronchiectasis, and patients requiring home oxygen in the clinic and inpatient setting.

Qualifications
Essential
* Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
* Evidence of post registration CPD / post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses
Experience
Essential
* Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
* Significant post registration experience, with evidence of passion/ enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice
* Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence
* Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality
* Experience and enthusiasm for teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
* Demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the NMC
Desirable
* Experience in service development

* Ability to explain the requirement to balance clinical caseload and developing skills, knowledge and competence
* Willingness to achieve competence in a range of clinical skills and expanded practices
