About the Role:
We are seeking a multi-talented on prem Infrastructure Engineer to join our team in Glasgow. This role will focus on integrating and automating third-party vendor backup solutions to support the firm’s data protection strategy. You will work on deep technical aspects, including troubleshooting operational incidents, integrating vendor products, and developing in-house applications that contribute to the business's technology platform.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the on-premise technology stack, including storage, networking, and operating systems, and proficiency in at least one high-level programming language. You will collaborate with a global team, working closely with customers and stakeholders to deliver effective technical solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Integration: Plan and perform integration of 3rd party software with the firm's infrastructure and existing solutions.
2. Automation: Identify and automate repetitive tasks (e.g., initial builds, config drift detection, healing).
3. Observability: Identify gaps and work with service teams to address solutions.
4. Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and proactively suggest improvements to enhance processes and products.
5. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
Required Skills:
1. In-depth experience with backup and data protection platforms, particularly Veritas, Cohesity NetBackup, and NetBackup Flex 10.x.
2. Strong debugging skills for complex issues, with the ability to think beyond documentation.
3. Excellent understanding of networking, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
4. Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a focus on innovative problem-solving.
5. Effective communication skills, able to translate ambiguity into actionable steps.
6. Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple projects and objectives.
7. Programming experience in Python and familiarity with Git and CI/CD tools (Jenkins).
8. Understanding of data deduplication and database backup technologies (e.g., agent-based backups, RMAN, XBSA).
9. Systems administration experience in UNIX/Windows Server environments is a plus.
10. Familiarity with storage systems (SAN, NAS, S3 object storage) and cloud computing (AWS/Azure).
11. Knowledge of Kubernetes/OpenShift and software vulnerability detection is beneficial.
