We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working people person, to help work in our café and visitor centre at our Dearne Valley Reserve. RSPB Old Moor is an urban oasis nature reserve and part of the Dearne Valley reserve cluster in South Yorkshire. Old Moor boasts excellent visitor infrastructure - a legacy from a recent National Lottery project. About the Role: Our work in the visitor centre is planned via the use of rotas and will include weekend and bank holiday working. Full induction and training will be provided, with opportunities to learn about the running of a busy visitor centre and nature reserve operation. Our cafe and reception operations are a crucial part of what we do here, encouraging visitors to explore the reserve, and giving them a great visitor experience. You will be a part of our café team, helping to serve customers, and undertaking other duties typical of a busy café and kitchen operation. You will also support our other visitor centre teams. You will be able to communicate well with our visitors and offer excellent levels of customer care. Duties will include working on our meet and greet operation, welcoming visitors to the reserve, giving out information, and encouraging visitors to support our work. Essential skills, knowledge and experience: GCSE Maths and English or equivalent. Basic food hygiene knowledge Computer literate. Enthusiastic approach to work. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Ability to plan and prioritise workloads. Multitasking skills Problem-solving skills and ability to work on own initiative. Ability to manage and respond quickly and positively to customer needs and feedback. Ability to work as part of a team. Desirable skills, knowledge and experience: Experience of working at a catering environment/visitor attraction. Knowledge of health and safety in the workplace. Knowledge of food and foodservice skills. Till operation and payment handling. Additional Information: We have 2 roles available: Role 1 - this is a part-time, permanent position with variable hours. Minimum hours will be 4 hours per week, rising to 12 hours per week at peak trading times. Role 2 - this is a part-time, fixed-term, seasonal role with variable hours. Minimum hours will be 8 hours per week, rising to 12 hours per week at peak trading times. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term. Both roles will have the opportunity to pick up extra hours to cover annual leave and sickness as required.
