Job summary
The driver is an integral part of the blood collection/delivery operation. Duties include the transportation of blood to the WBS centre, delivery of blood and blood components to customer hospitals in the South/Mid Wales area and the delivery of the Public Health Wales (PHW) service level agreement. Additional duties include the delivery of blood and commercial blood products to the Welsh Blood Service Stock Holding Unit (SHU) in North East Wales and the return of blood to the processing laboratory at Talbot Green.
Main duties of the job
The Welsh Blood Service requires a competent individual to undertake driving and other transport related duties. Knowledge of main and local routes within South, Mid and North Wales would be an advantage. The contracted hours are per week, with flexible start and finish duty times based on the operational requirements of the Service. Length of duties will vary and may include occasional night working hours and a possibility of weekend working. Any time worked in excess of hours will be paid at the appropriate rate.
Applicants will be expected to work flexible hours. Effective communication skills are essential, as part of the role will involve dealing with external contacts. A current driving licence with C1 and D1 entitlement is essential.
