Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our department. The post is for a part-time (12.5 hrs per week), job share. You will work alongside another part-time Senior Sister. We work Monday-Friday 07.30-6pm.
We are looking for a driven and focused team member who will take responsibility for managing the department and maintaining excellent patient care. This post holder will be an effective leader with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a desire to develop themselves and others within their roles.
The successful candidate will need to be self-motivated and enthusiastic; able to work on their own initiative as well as part of a multidisciplinary team and will need to be able to work flexibly as required by the service.
This is an exciting time to join our friendly and supportive Ophthalmology Nursing team. We have recently achieved Silver accreditation and Team of the Month for our development of the Nurse Injector Service, which we are very proud of.
The Eye Unit is a multidisciplinary team providing holistic care for a large group of patients with different ophthalmic conditions. We are a big team which includes 20 Nurses & HCSW's, Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Technicians, and Admin.
In the department, there is an outpatients department, a day case ward area which caters for patients undergoing Eye surgery under local and general anaesthetic and a Nurse-led Anti Veg-f injection service.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse is accountable and responsible for the care delivery and management of the Eye unit. This will include the supervision of staff and students. You will be involved in datix investigations, Health Roster, vacancy management, appraisals, and ensuring staff training is up to date.
In order to achieve this, the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will work in a supervisory capacity and be expected to lead and manage team performance thus enhancing the patient experience, improving patient outcomes, and contributing to the organisational priorities.
The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will act as an exemplar role model delivering high standards of care through demonstrating care and compassion at all times.
