Job Summary:
The HV Authorised Person is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and management of high voltage (HV) electrical systems. They ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and company policies by overseeing and carrying out HV switching operations, isolations, and safety precautions on electrical systems.
The role requires ensuring that HV equipment is maintained and operated, while adhering to operational procedures to mitigate electrical risks. The HV Authorised Person acts as the key individual authorised to manage and control HV electrical systems, in compliance with local electrical standards and safety requirements.
Location - UK - South - also work in Frankfurt on a rotating Shift - All expenses paid. Hotel, Fuel, Visa, Transport
Key Responsibilities:
1. HV Switching Operations:
o Perform switching, isolation, and restoration of electrical systems in accordance with authorised switching schedules and safety rules.
o Oversee planned and unplanned HV switching operations to maintain system safety and efficiency.
o Produce and follow approved switching plans.
o Maintain detailed records of all HV switching activities, including updates to logbooks and other documentation.
2. Safety and Compliance:
o Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, as well as company safety rules and HV operational procedures.
o Act as the responsible person for issuing safety documents (e.g., Permits to Work, Sanction for Tests, and Limitation of Access) in high voltage environments.
o Implement safety procedures and controls to minimise the risk of injury or equipment damage using Lock out Tag out and permit to work systems.
o Conduct risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for HV works.
3. Maintenance and Inspection:
o Coordinate and carry out routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of HV systems and associated electrical infrastructure.
o Identify and rectify faults in HV systems to ensure consistent and safe operation.
o Plan, manage, and oversee scheduled and reactive maintenance activities on HV equipment, such as transformers, switchgear, and protective relays.
Qualifications & Background:
Essential:
* Authorised to operate HV electrical systems as per local regulations or company policies.
* NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
* Extensive knowledge in HV electrical systems operation, maintenance, and switching.
* Comprehensive understanding of electrical safety regulations (e.g., Electricity at Work Regulations, BS 7671)
* Demonstrable knowledge of high voltage distribution networks, switchgear, and protection systems.
* Knowledge of emergency response procedures.
* City & Guilds 6156-01 (High Voltage Operational Safety) or equivalent qualification.
Desirable:
* Background in coordinating HV systems within large industrial or Data Centre environments.
* Supervisory or leadership exposure in an electrical environment.
Skills & Competencies:
* Strong technical understanding of HV electrical systems and switchgear.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external contractors.
* High level of attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
* Ability to work under pressure, particularly in emergency or fault conditions.
* Ability to maintain professional authorisation for HV operations through continuous learning.
