The Student Biodiversity Coordinator is required to work 8 hours per week during the academic year.
Position Summary
The Biodiversity Coordinator will help protect, preserve and revitalize habitat through sustainable land management. This Coordinator will manage our current tree resources, the apiary, pollinator meadows and involvement in Tree Campus USA. The Biodiversity work study student should be able to recognize the connection between biological and cultural diversity. Student should be willing to delve into the meaning of community in their area of sustainability study.
Major Preferred
Open to any majors, some course work in Biology, Environmental Science, Sustainability, a plus.
Experience Required
A basic understanding of sustainability, knowledge of ecosystems and biodiversity a plus.
Skills and Characteristics Required for Position
1. Proficiency with MS Office
2. Ability to influence and lead peers
3. Basic knowledge of use of tools
4. Be able to lift up to 50 pounds
5. Strong communication, both verbally and in writing
6. Passionate about implementing sustainability solutions to the campus environment
Primary Duties
1. Serve as the student representative on the campus Tree Care Committee
2. Maintain/update campus tree plan
3. Develop and administer educational programs related to conservation; including but not limited to pollinator habitat, stream restoration, tree care, and other land conservation efforts
4. Develop off campus partnerships
5. Assess impact of biodiversity on campus
6. Plan Arbor Day celebration and other service related tree planting projects
7. Work closely with Buildings and Grounds to maintain and grow current programs.
8. Develop new programs (on and off campus)
9. Create opportunity to assess endangered and vulnerable species and identify environmentally sensitive areas on campus.
10. Measure carbon sequestration on campus
11. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance
