Diesel Fitter/Mechanic - Bus & Coach
A leading mobile diagnostic and support service for Bus & Coach operators is looking for skilled Diesel Fitters/Mechanics to join our growing team. Specialising in heavy Diesel-Mechanical, Electric, Hybrid & Alternative Fuels vehicles, we provide top-tier maintenance, diagnostics, and repair services while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
This hands-on role offers variety, career progression, and the chance to enhance your mechanical and technical skills while working with cutting-edge vehicle systems. The successful candidate will be expected to work a 7/3/7/4 shift pattern (primarily days).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults on a range of diesel buses and coaches.
2. Use manufacturer-approved diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot engine, transmission, and electronic control issues.
3. Conduct engine overhauls, clutch replacements, brake repairs, suspension work, and general mechanical servicing.
4. Perform MOT preparations, safety inspections, and preventative maintenance to ensure compliance with VOSA and operator standards.
5. Provide breakdown assistance and on-site repairs, ensuring minimal downtime for operators.
6. Carry out calibration and reprogramming for key vehicle systems, including WABCO, Cummins, and other major manufacturers.
7. Support customers with shift cover, workshop supervision, and fleet maintenance planning.
8. Maintain accurate records of work completed, ensuring compliance with safety and operational procedures.
Essential Criteria:
1. NVQ/SVQ/City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, Diesel Mechanics, or a related field.
2. Previous experience as a Diesel Fitter/Mechanic working on buses, coaches, trucks, or other heavy vehicles.
3. A valid UK Driving Licence (clean preferred, but all applications considered).
4. Flexibility and willingness to work shift pattern (7/3/7/4).
Desirable Skills:
1. Strong understanding of diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and vehicle electrics.
2. IRTEC accreditation (Bus & Coach preferred) or willingness to obtain it with company support.
3. High Voltage (HV) training or electrical certification for working on hybrid/electric vehicles.
