About the role
A dedicated, experienced individual to join the Operations function as a Senior Business Analyst, working across all areas of the company, defining business and IT change.
The Senior Business Analyst will also play a key role in ensuring project management policies, procedures and standards are adhered to, working collaboratively with the relevant PMO Manager and Senior Project Manager.
To be successful as a Senior Business Analyst, you should demonstrate an ability to quickly understand existing operating models, great delivery focus and the ability to use a wide-ranging set of tools and methods to address different change management scenarios and deliver great outcomes.
Key aptitudes include a strong drive to successfully agree and deliver business outcomes, brilliant collaboration across all project and programme stakeholders and a relentless focus on continuous improvement. A natural curiosity to understand and address blockers to effective change is a must.
Key responsibilities
1. Review, analyse and evaluate business systems and user needs.
2. Collaborate with solution users, other project stakeholders, department leaders and the Executive to understand current operating models and what improvements are needed.
3. Engage with colleagues across the business to elicit requirements for new and existing projects and form a bridge between the IT Development Team and business areas.
4. Document requirements, define scope and objectives to meet business needs.
5. Provide transparent articulation of the position, validating assumptions, and ensuring support for solutions from all relevant stakeholders.
6. Oversee the completion of Business Requirement/Specification documents in line with agreed standards.
7. Establish and agree standard business analysis processes and ensure they are embedded in the team, with business and IT colleagues and elsewhere as needed.
8. Critically review all activity to ensure it aligns to policy, procedure, and standards. Where it doesn’t, address the gaps and support a “lessons learned” culture with associated colleague and methodology development.
9. Support a continuous improvement mindset across this discipline by spending time developing process and capability.
10. Collaborate with users and other project stakeholders to ensure common understanding of change policy, procedures, and standards.
11. Ensure successful transition from solution design to benefit delivery.
12. Ensure the development of operating models align to agreed solution design.
13. Work as part of a team to ensure delivery of key development tasks.
14. Define testing strategies and carry out user acceptance testing, both planning and execution of tests.
15. Where issues arise, bring stakeholders together to optimise solutions.
16. Ensure the project delivers the expected outcomes and benefits.
17. Role model collaborative behaviours, consistently and diligently supporting the Senior Project Manager and PMO in encouraging all relevant stakeholders to achieve expected outcomes.
18. Work with business and project stakeholders to consider business readiness and benefit optimisation approaches, including design of MI solutions and governance models.
19. Deal with changes to the project as and when necessary.
20. Where there is material risk to expected project outcomes, costs or timescales, discuss mitigations with the PM, the project team, PMO and project sponsor and agree what alternatives might best support agreed business outcomes.
21. Respond to benefit optimisation opportunities by highlighting how existing business capabilities might be developed or adjusted.
Qualifications and skills
1. 5+ years as a Business Analyst and/or Senior Business Analyst working in a fast-paced, technology-driven, financial services environment, ideally with Investment and Pensions experience.
2. Experience of defining and delivering customer service and customer-facing digital solutions enabled through in-house and third-party IT capabilities is key.
3. Attention to detail and an analytical ability to help propose and assess solutions to problems and appropriately prioritise activities.
4. Exceptional collaboration and relationship development/management skills with the confidence to challenge others and support effectively and constructively in their development.
5. Excellent communication skills with an ability to filter/interpret all components of an operating model and provide clear, concise proposals for change appropriate for a variety of levels within a business and for technical and non-technical audiences.
6. Experience of waterfall and agile helpful, an “agree the best way” outlook is essential.
7. Technical qualifications such as Prince, SAFE and ISEB helpful.
8. Proficient use of MS applications including Visio, SharePoint, Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
9. Strong initiative and drive, self-motivated with an aptitude to work well under pressure and with low supervision.
10. A passion for and experience in developing others in all areas of business analysis.
