An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative Health Visitor or School Nurse holding a Specialist Community Practitioner qualification (SCPHN) to work 0.5 WTE as a Paediatric Liaison nurse within the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Safeguarding Team.
This is a job share opportunity to work alongside the current paediatric liaison nurse within the safeguarding team.
The Paediatric Liaison Nurse will be responsible for effective and robust communication and share relevant pertinent and timely information between Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS trust and our multi-agency partners in health and social care across the Yorkshire and Humber region, promoting child and family-centred care through early identification, intervention and appropriate referral of vulnerable children and young people who access urgent and emergency care, so that professionals working with those children, young people and families can support them effectively.
The Paediatric Liaison Nurse will also support the work of the Safeguarding Team in fulfilling the statutory duties and responsibilities in regard to child death, child safeguarding processes and child enquiries as well as working closely with the Named Professional Lead for Children and Young People to support and evolve the service to meet the needs of children and young people within the Yorkshire Region. The job is hybrid working.
Main duties of the job
* The Paediatric Liaison Nurse will share relevant pertinent and timely information so that professionals working with those children, young people and families can support them effectively.
* Build and sustain positive working relationships with all YAS service lines, universal 0-19 health services, child specialist health services and relevant agencies across Yorkshire & Humber to improve health outcomes for the child.
* Work with complex child cases in multi-agency settings, requiring effective and advanced communication skills, confident in working with other statutory agencies such as local authorities and the police.
* Develop and maintain communications with appropriate stakeholders to communicate the complex health needs of the child and inform care plans for the child.
* Work closely with the safeguarding team regarding the unborn child/young person and neonates, Emergency Department attendances, and hospital admissions.

Job responsibilities
The Paediatric Liaison Nurse will provide direct and indirect advice to colleagues and other professionals on the assessment and management of a coordinated health response of frequent caller children and young people. The Paediatric Liaison Nurse will be able to communicate clearly the potential risks to children in line with statutory safeguarding requirements ensuring all communication is effectively documented and records are auditable.
The successful candidate will need to be adaptable, innovative and have excellent communication and IT skills. They will be knowledgeable about safeguarding issues and feel confident to provide evidence-based advice and support to colleagues. They will be confident to challenge poor safeguarding practices through the Named Professionals and act as an advocate for children & adults at risk.
The successful candidate will need to have excellent IT skills and effectively utilise a variety of clinical systems and Microsoft office applications.
Person Specification
Qualifications / Knowledge
* Registered General Nurse with Registered nurse or midwife with substantial post-qualification experience
* Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor or School Nurse)
* Understanding of the role of universal services, specialist services and multi-agency partners in supporting children, young people and families
* Evidence of continued professional development including safeguarding specific learning
Skills and competencies
* Experience of managing competing priorities and completing tasks within required timescales and with available resources
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to analyse, interpret and present complex information
* Confident in presenting information to individuals and groups in internal and external meetings
