We are looking for a dynamic Programme Manager to lead a portfolio of projects within our Infrastructure Change team. In this role, you will oversee the planning, development, and delivery of Northern and Third Party projects, that relate to our TrainCare Centres, Outstations and station platforms. You will manage a complex programme of activity, ensuring seamless coordination and delivery across a diverse portfolio of projects. From the development and maintenance of comprehensive project schedules for Northern TrainCare Centres to overseeing works in a safe, cost-effective, and efficient manner, your leadership will be instrumental in achieving our project goals. As a key point of contact for Infrastructure Change projects in your region, you will leverage your strong stakeholder management skills to foster collaborative relationships and ensure alignment with strategic objectives. Your ability to provide detailed reports and communicate project progress to both internal and external stakeholders will be crucial in driving transparency and accountability. If this sounds like your thing, we’d love to hear from you Key responsibilities: This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include: Lead and coordinate the delivery of Construction and Infrastructure projects related to TrainCare Centre, Depot Outstation and station platform infrastructure programmes as designated. To manage the dependencies between Train Care Centre projects and other transformational programmes in the business. Challenge the delivery of other infrastructure schemes such as Platforms and Gauging works undertaken by Network Rail, and manage internal stakeholders in readiness for these changes as required by these programmes. Act as Northern Trains key point of contact on relevant industry forums affecting infrastructure change development in the region of the business connected to the role. Work closely with the PMO to establish which projects require direct governance – and reporting – by Northern. Act as a key point of contact with NR/DfT/RN and other external stakeholders at the appropriate level to ensure that proposals developed and championed by Northern are implemented. Supporting the Infrastructure Change Lead, this role will help to deliver a series of medium to long term initiatives. About you: Your expertise in construction project management, coupled with a strong understanding of railway standards and processes, will be instrumental in driving our projects forward. As a pragmatic practitioner, you apply best practices judiciously to achieve optimal outcomes, all while maintaining a keen eye on detail and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements. We’re also looking for the following: Experience running major integrated programmes and delivering strategic programme plans. Expertise in planning and risk management within a complex programme environment. Knowledge of the rail industry (advantageous) and experience managing construction projects. Educated to degree level or equivalent, with qualifications such as Prince 2 practitioner and Managing Successful Programmes practitioner desirable. Familiarity with railway standards, Network Rail processes, project finance, and health and safety requirements for construction projects. Strong commercial acumen and the ability to prioritise and adapt in dynamic environments. Resilient, innovative, and flexible approach to problem-solving, fostering continuous improvement and team development.
