We are looking to recruit to cover a years maternity leave creating an exciting opportunity for an Orthoptist to join our team at York Hospital. The successful applicant will work alongside 3 wte Orthoptists, 2.6 wte Optometrists and 3 Consultant Ophthalmologists specialising in Paediatric and Adult Motility. York is a large Ophthalmology unit with 23 consultants in total covering all specialities, to include Neuro-Ophthalmology.
The successful applicant will also be responsible, depending on experience for providing an Orthoptic Service to the Children's Centre, liaising with Paediatrician's and other AHP's involved in the care of children with additional needs
The successful candidate should have
• Diploma/Degree in Orthoptics
• Medicine exemptions for Orthoptists
• HCPC registration
To work as part of the Orthoptic Team and contribute to a high standard of Orthoptic care within the Ophthalmology Services at the Trust, working to Professional Practice Guidelines and Trust Policies.
To work as an autonomous practitioner using evidence based and patient centered principles, to provide a high standard of care to a diverse caseload of patients to include patients with social, physical, psychological, behavioural, and cognitive challenges.
As an autonomous practitioner to assess, diagnose, treat and discharge Paediatric and Adult patients attending the Orthoptic Service and to provide Specialist Orthoptic advice to a range of patients including those with highly complex conditions.
To work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, working alongside Ophthalmologists & Optometrists to assess and manage patients.
To take the Lead Role in the provision of a Specialist Service in the Children’s Centre, to assess and manage children with visual impairment &/or additional needs. The role involves multi-disciplinary working to include liaising with Paediatricians, Physiotherapists, OT’s, SALTS, ECLO’s QTVI’s, SENCO’s and LEA
To act as a resource within the Department and Trust providing specialist Orthoptic information and advice.
To provide training, support and advice to Orthoptic Undergraduates, junior doctors, pre-registration Optometrists and other Health Care Professions
